Heights First Church of the Nazarene offers many opportunities to be involved in our local community as well as the world community. We partner with many different resources to help fulfill the calling of Christ, which is to bring those that don’t know Him into a relationship with Him. Below you will find a list of helpful links that have been invaluable to us as a church.
How Can I Become A Christian?
It’s as easy as … ABC
Admit Your Need
The first step in becoming a Christian is to admit that we need God’s help. Man is separated from his Creator because of sin. Only with God’s help can we find true inner peace and the ultimate purpose for our lives.
As a human being we are born with a “sinful nature” passed down from the original sin of Adam. (Romans 5:12). The first step towards salvation is to acknowledge that there is sin in our life and we want to do something about it. (Romans 3:23)
As an act of closure for this step, God wishes us to confess those sins that we freely admit we have. (1 John 1:9). After admitting to these sins, we must repent of our sins. This means we have an internal, heart changing, transformation of our sinful ways. This doesn’t mean we have to get up in front of a group and rattle off every bad thing we’ve ever done, the confession and repentance is spoken to God alone. Furthermore, it is enough for us to tell him simply that we are aware of our sin and wish to turn from it. He already knows the details… (Hebrews 4:13).
Believe Jesus is who He says He is
God sent His Son Jesus to help us. It is only through the help that Jesus gives us that we can come to God. There is no other way to God.
Jesus plainly stated that he was the way to reach God. The only way to reach God (John 14:6). That’s right, God’s plan of salvation had him sacrifice his only Son for you and me. The amount of love both Father (for sending Jesus) and Son (for actually dying) showed for us with this act is almost unimaginable. (Romans 5:8).
Confess and receive Jesus as the leader of your life
The final step in becoming a Christian is to personally acknowledge Jesus as our new controlling factor in life and receive His spirit into our lives. Then Jesus does the rest.
Now, here are some things to think about. It is important for you to tell another believer of your decision to be a Christian. (Romans 10:9-10). Find someone to celebrate with. Also, it is important to find a church with which to worship. We need other people to pray for and encourage us. A church family is also a great place to learn more about your new found faith. Finally, as a new Christian, a follower of Christ, a child of God. (John 1:12), begin to pray and ask God what His purpose is for your life.

For the new Christian, it is an opportunity to sit individually with a pastor and discuss the importance of their decision as well as how to navigate life as a new Christian. For those who are transferring denominations, there is a review of the Nazarene Doctrine and acceptance of those beliefs that are essential to its theology.
