Reaching beyond our church family with the good news of grace and forgiveness.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. — Luke 19:10, NIV
Accepting others with sympathetic insight and genuine love.
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. — Romans 15:5-7, NIV
Nurturing believers in the principles of Christian faith and discipline.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. — Matthew 28:19, NIV
Embracing our Christian family with mutual trust and common purpose.
Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. — John 1:3, NIV
We believe in one God — the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.
We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.
We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
This is our vision
Heights First Church of the Nazarene is Christ’s beacon of light shining in the darkness to all within Albuquerque and beyond. We accept our responsibility to reach beyond our church family with the good news of the love of Christ. As a community of faith, we are available, responding with support and compassion. This far-reaching vision captivates our heart and motivates us to fulfill God’s prosperous plans and the early dreams of those who have gone before us. Like looking at the brilliant facets of a diamond, we realize our mission through seven aspects of ministry:
- Christian Education
Education in how to live a Christian life is important to growing in our spiritual walk. We offer many opportunities for learning — Sunday School classes and Wednesday evening classes, and a variety of small groups, including WOW Bible Study, Common Ground, Dynamic Christian Living, Popcorn Bible Listening Group, Men’s and Women’s Ministries, Mentoring Groups, Beth Moore study of “The Patriarchs,” Share N’ Prayer and Intercessors.
- Age Group Ministries
HFC offers numerous ministries for people of all ages — senior ministries, adult ministries, youth ministries and children’s ministries.
- Community Care
It is our responsibility as Christians to serve our community and touch the lives of those among us who need mercy and love. At HFC, we are serving the greater Albuquerque area through several outreach programs.
• Village at Alameda worship — An outreach to the elderly in which church members and pastors offer an opportunity for worship, prayer and a message to those that can’t make it to church.
• Big Blue Bus — An outreach to the children in our community that provides free transportation to and from church, Sunday school and other activities.
• Nuevo Esperanza in Bernalillo — An outreach to the community of Bernalillo that provides thrift store goods to those in need with the hope that a church will be planted.
• Upward Basketball — An opportunity for children in the community to become involved in team sports with a Christian attitude in a Christian setting.
- World Missions
World missions are an essential part to being a Christian in today’s society, as well as being the central focus of the Church of the Nazarene. Heights First Church is committed to being a part of this important calling. Our vision involves reaching the world for Christ through these partnerships:
Nazarene Global Missions
Nazarene Youth International (NYI)
- Cultural Impact
Our desire as a people of faith is to impact our culture with truth, influencing our communities for Christ, for this is part of The Great Commission. Here at Heights First Church, we offer a variety of ministries to try and meet the needs of our community. To get involved, please contact the church office at 505.822.0000.
The Albuquerque First Church of the Nazarene was founded in 1919 after a tent meeting at the corne of 7th and Central. The original First Church gave birth to several new churches in order to minister to Albuquerque’s ever-growing population. With each bold step, the congregation prepared the foundation for the opportunities of ministry we enjoy today.
In 1987, the congregations at First Church and Montgomery Heights united in a vision of ministering to Albuquerque’s rapidly growing Northeast Heights. Heights First Church of the Nazarene (HFC) was born!
With great faith, members of HFC began building at the corner of Barstow and Paseo del Norte with a vision of a campus atmosphere that would be inviting to the surrounding community. That vision of Christian worship and community outreach captures the spirit and heartbeat of the HFC family still today.
